LCMHC, NCC

Madel is located at our Durham office.

Madel is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) who specializes in psychosocial oncology counseling for individuals, couples, and families having completed her clinical experience at the Duke Cancer Institute. She earned her Master’s degree in Counseling from Wake Forest University. She completed training in clinical hypnosis through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and learned the North Carolina Hypnosis Protocol for Irritable Bowel Syndrome from its creator, Dr. O.S. Palsson, Professor of Medicine, UNC Chapel Hill.

Her passion for empowering clients is built from her 25+ years of military service. She believes in serving her clients with honor, humility, and unconditional positive regard. From an interpersonal cognitive-behavioral frame of reference, Madel draws effective interventions from several different therapy approaches, customizing each based on the client’s issue, comfort, desire, personal identity, and cultural and system perspectives. She believes in the mind, body, and spiritual connection, which can be leveraged to confront issues like chronic illness/pain, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, grief/loss, racial/gender identity crisis, and issues related to military/veteran life. She has personal experience with providing academic and emotional support for high functioning autism, ADHD, and OCD.

With a strong belief that a therapeutic relationship is a critical element of therapy, Madel collaborates with each client, meeting them where they are and joining them on their journey toward awareness, healing, resiliency, empowerment, and psychological flexibility to create a meaningful and content life.
