Vanessa is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) who works with adults and adolescents seeking holistic healing and wellness. She earned her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina State University and has completed training in life coaching and mind-body movement forms including yoga and NIA. Her previous work and study in the fields of cultural history, women’s health and sexuality, and library science lend to an anti-oppression framework, as well as an ability to find and share pertinent resources with clients.
Vanessa has a background working with members of the LGBQ+, trans, and poly communities. She also specializes in relationship and family-of-origin concerns, spirituality, self-esteem, identity issues, mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, and burnout and stress.
In a style that honors collaboration and harnesses the strengths and wisdom of her clients, Vanessa prioritizes safety and authentic relating in her approach to therapy. She brings together trauma-informed therapeutic skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and body-based meditation practices. These, along with a social justice lens that works to understand how our identities, communities, and social environments influence our well-being, serve to support clients in their journey of self-discovery, growth, and wholeness.
