Do you view gender variance as pathological?
It is not uncommon to view gender variance as pathological. As a society, we tend to view the masses as binary, composed of two genders: male and female. In Margaret Nichols latest article titled The Great Escape, “there’s no such thing as the opposite sex.” Gender is no longer binary and we need to be equipped to view, treat, address, and support gender diversity.
As boundaries between male and female become more blurred and society becomes more accepting, it’s imperative that mental health professionals encourage and support gender-variant clients. Therapy can be a comfortable space for those, regardless of age, to express their needs, desires, and setbacks when defining their gender… if they choose.
